Land of Wonder

Welcome to Cambodia, a land of ancient temples, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. In the heart of Southeast Asia, Cambodia is renowned for its warm hospitality, delicious cuisine and colorful festivals that bring its rich traditions to life.

Cambodia is a less-travelled part of Southeast Asia, and this is your chance to discover it!

Whether you’re seeking a meaningful way to travel or looking to gain unique experience in your field, Cambodia offers an unforgettable journey filled with inspiring moments, cultural immersion and opportunities to make a real impact.

A destination filled with breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and meaningful opportunities to give back.

Where you’ll be based!

Our hub is based in Battambang, a charming riverside city that feels more like a country town. In your free time, enjoy traditional cooking classes, take a ride on the infamous bamboo train, and don’t miss a visit to the spectacular bat caves.

Just 3 hours from Siem Reap, Battambang is the perfect base for exploring Angkor Wat (we recommend visiting for sunrise!). Afterwards, you’ll have plenty of time to wander the night markets or continue discovering Cambodia’s hidden gems.

Cambodia’s tragic history under the Khmer Rouge regime has left lasting social and economic challenges that the country continues to address. Despite some progress, many underserved communities still lack the support they need to overcome developmental challenges.

Our team is based on the ground all year round, working hand in hand with the local community – this ensures that all our programs meet current community needs and are part of a long-term plan that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By joining a program in Cambodia, and contributing to our community projects, you will use your skills, knowledge and passions to create lasting, positive impact.

Cambodia Social Impact Challenge

Challenge Overview

One of the major challenges in Cambodia is the lack of access to quality education, which prevents many people from gaining the skills needed for employment and breaking the cycle of poverty.

The Cambodian government provides only half a day of free education at primary school level. To receive a full day of schooling, children must attend supplementary classes, which come at a cost. For families living at or below the poverty line, this expense is unaffordable, leaving many children with limited opportunities to learn.

Since 2013, Challenges Abroad and FutureSense Foundation have supported a supplementary education center in Battambang – a center that would have otherwise closed without our help. Through this initiative, we provide children in the community with free supplementary education classes, giving them a chance to enhance their learning, build confidence, and develop skills for the future.

Honestly, it was the best 2 weeks, and I would do it again in a heartbeat... Sharing this journey with such a positive and supportive team made the experience even more meaningful, and it reminded me of the power of community, even across different cultures and backgrounds.

Cambodia Health Promotion Challenge

Challenge Overview

The impacts of the Khmer Rouge are still deeply felt throughout Cambodia, particularly in the healthcare sector, which continues to face numerous challenges.

With over one third of Cambodia’s population under the age of 15, there is a shortage of professionals across various sectors, notably in healthcare. Nutritional deficiencies, mental health issues, and non-communicable diseases pose significant threats to the community.

Our Health Promotion Challenge raises awareness and supports public health initiatives to help build healthier and more resilient communities. Every contribution, from health promotion and education, plays a meaningful role in empowering communities and strengthening systems that they rely on the most.

It was an amazing experience; there’s nothing I would change about it. I’ve made such great friendships and have enjoyed leaving my handprint on the world.
