About India
Enjoy the scenic beauty of lush greenery while surrounded by incredible mountain ranges when you take part in a program in India with Challenges Abroad. You’ll be based at our hub in Palampur, a rural hill station affectionately known as the ‘tea capital’ of Northern India. Here you’ll be able to explore stunning tea gardens, temples, colonial architecture and local markets in your spare time.
You’ll also have time to make the trip to Dharamshala, which serves as the capital of the Tibetan Government in exile. You’ll experience a culture completely unique to other parts of India, with fluttering prayer flags, monasteries and monks dressed in brilliant robes. Dharamshala is a fantastic place to relax, unwind and enjoy the serenity surrounding you during your free time. It will also give you an insight into the background of some of the Tibetan families we work with in Palampur.
Programs in India
You can choose from a variety of programs to make your impact with Challenges Abroad in India, including:
Make an ethical impact in India
In Palampur, you will be working with our charity, the FutureSense Foundation. Our FutureSense India team are based in Palampur year-round and work alongside the local community to ensure that our programs are meeting current needs and are part of a long-term plan that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through this model our participants can make a contribution that will have an ongoing, positive impact in the community.
We are committed to ensuring that our programs in India and around the world are ethical and sustainable, while safeguarding children that we work with and fostering global citizenship. You can learn more about our sustainable development projects in India by visiting the FutureSense website.

The community here have so little, yet they go above and beyond and give you everything to make you feel welcome, and in turn we were able to make a difference in an ongoing project. Best 3 weeks of my life.
Aoife McCann - Griffith University
This is a challenging yet life changing experience, that I will never forget. I am so proud of everything we achieved, the was a trip with real purpose and I hope to participate in something like this again in the future!
Kelsey Noble - Southern Cross University
Volunteering has been one of the best decisions I've made! I've met such amazing kids and learnt so much from them. Leave your handprint on the world because you will find yourself changed forever.
Fiona Chen - University of Queensland
I had a fantastic experience and learnt so much. Being immersed in the culture at both the schools was valuable and captivating. I was able to gain a number of skills and knowledge and hopefully made a big impact on the communities we engaged with. I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone considering it.
